REMEMBERING SUSIE...

Susan Lynn Autry
September 17, 1960-December 17, 2007

I haven’t seen Susie in many years; but, like all her family and friends, I will miss her. She will always be remembered.

Susie was an cute, energetic little girl who became a pretty, vivacious teenager and young adult. Everyone loved Susie. Her short blond pixie hair cut, her freckles, her animated personality had to make you smile. Susie was always involved in some activity or project with her family or friends. She was definitely the family's "social butterfly".

She could charm “ the socks off of anyone” and loved to laugh, make jokes, and had no trouble in high school making friends or dating her share of football players. Susie worked hard and earned a spot on the popular Dunn High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad and was a member of many high school social clubs. She was a proud member of the Dunn High School Class of 1978 and later attended East Carolina University.

I lost contact with Susie after college, but heard reports from her family and friends that she looked and acted like the same pretty, spirited young woman she was at eighteen. Complimentary remarks about her family were never in short supply. She was blessed with Sonny, six terrific children: kids Joel (23), Faith (22), Cassie (19), Brian (18), Tina (17) and Jason (16), and later a grandchild.

Her brother and sister, Wally and Laura, often talked about her tenacity and spirit in fighting her long-term battle with illness. They were by Susie’s side when she needed them the most as was the rest of her immediate family.

Susie taught us, that, when diagnosed with serious illness, you must go on with life by never giving in or giving up. Her courage in dealing with life's sometimes overwhelming obstacles and circumstances was exemplary and should be a testament to all of us.

God bless you, Susie. We will miss your spirit and determination. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.-A
