Four parachutes. Worth your time. I liked FLIGHTPLAN.
And, if you have ever been out with a child and have them missing for a moment, you know the panic. In fact, my granddaughter is the worst. You are talking to her; and, in a minute, she is gone; She's nine and it is innocent; She doesn't "run away" but she walks away to look at books and other stuff that interest her. Kids are so very trusting anyway. But, for us overprotective types or concerned parents, in general, a missing child would be the worst possible tragedy.
This movie is great at setting the scene. Jodie Foster is such a good actress. I think I love her. She has this incredible intensity about her. If you were to meet her(not as a celebrity) by noticing her in a crowded bar or talking to her in a bookstore, she would be someone you would want to know with the purest of motives. With her, you get the idea that this is not some empty glass.
I am not going to give away the story. Kyle's (Foster's) six year old daughter, Julia, is missing on the plane. (The movie is suspenseful and has surprising twists and turns and is almost more about grief than anything.) Kyle's( Foster's) husband dies and she is taking his body home; They have been in Berlin, where she has been working with the aircraft industry. You quickly get the idea that Kyle is one smart female, but the movie doesn't fully explain all-The mother; and, even the daughter, to a degree, are dealing with this enormous loss with personal recriminations, i. e., husband's death--Why? Insinuations that it was suicide. Was he that unhappy? Why did Kyle (Jodie Foster) not know? There were a couple of things that didn't quite come together, and I would have liked to have discussed the "holes"
with someone. Minor, however.
FLIGHTPLAN was a movie that inspired plane safety in a way. If you look at movies, like I do, with some sort of redeeming purpose, FLIGHTPLAN had some very good lessons like: tolerance, things aren't always what they seem, people really don't pay attention, there are some mean "mothers" in the world, and the love and tenacity of a mother can never be underestimated.
