MY ROCK
(Mom)
Sometimes I catch myself
Thinking, "When I phone,
I can talk of this or that!"
Then remember, I'm alone.
She was always there
To answer my calls
To listen to my "small talk"
Or when I climbed the walls.
At times, I didn't feel like talking
And somehow, she understood
Didn't say she wished I'd call
Or make me feel like I should.
Now, I wish I would have
More times, to show I cared
To say, just how important
Were, all those times we shared.
I could have shown my love
So much more than I did
I never, did it enough
Even when I was a kid.
Now it's too late to do or say
All those things I wish I had -
No way to ease the pain inside
When my heart is sad.
She was my "anchor" to this life -
The "rock", that I clung to -
The place, where I could turn
When, nowhere else would do.
Now, the ravages of time
Have worn my "rock" away -
And all I have to cling to
Are memories of yesterday.

Michael Tweed/Reuters.Used for commentary only | JANE. She is everywhere promoting her tell all memoir, My Life So Far. I've read it and like it. But, honestly, Jane, is it necessary to tell everything you absolutely know? Have you heard the story about the little girl who got a book on penguins from her grandmother. The grandmother asked her if she liked the book. The nine year old said, "Grandma, I liked it but it told me more about penguins than I care to know." Jane, My Life So Far, is getting to be a penguin experience. It rivals Bill's (Clinton)book for length. And, would you believe that Jane cut out five hundred pages?

I do think it's time to quit bashing Jane. She says that her "Hanoi Jane" trip was a collossal mistake. And it is factual that it probably costs American lives. There is strong speculation that the North Vietnamese were on the verge of suing for peace when she arrived on the scene. And, since they did not understand our system of government thought, "Here's a big American movie star and she says that all the American people oppose the war and it must be true." When in fact, a majority of Americans who cared were still willing to see the thing through although the media made it appear otherwise. Based on their belief about who Jane was and what they thought, the North Vietnamese decided to wait us out. The rest, as we say, is history: several more years of war.

Regardless, it is history. Jane did what she did, caught up in the politics of her husband; and, by her own admission, controlled and driven by her husband at the time--radical, Tom Hayden. For Vietnam vets, its time to get over it. And, the guy who recently spit in Jane's face, he is probably one of the Swift Boat vets who wouldn't know reason if it ran over him.
Don't forget, (I won't) the Swiftboat vets were used by rich Texans and they chose "one who dodged over one who served" and there's no sugar coating that in my own mind. I think they are in about the same category of Jane's idiocy during her trip to Hanoi.
I like Jane. However, Jane, it is about time you quit lambasting your Dad. I am a "Henry" fan and parents can't be such ogres constantly. So, the guy was less than stellar and maybe weaved when he should have stood upright but he brought lots of pleasure to those of us who loved Mister Roberts and all his movies. He was a great cowboy and always looked great in a uniform. I can still see him as an Admiral in WW ll saying, "Set the course for Midway." I mean, let's give the guy a little slack and Jane also.

FOR MOMS
She was there at the beginning
When the world was new to you -
She was there to turn to happy times
Those when, you were hurt or blue.
She was there to listen to your thoughts
And when you asked, to give advice -
She was there to tell you, "Those don't match!"
Or, "Hon, you sure look nice."
She was there with you at nighttime
To help you say your prayers _
She was there to tell you, "It's alright."
When you had a dream that scares.
She was there at morning time
To get you up and out of bed -
She was there when you didn't feel good (or did)
To say, "You'd best stay home, instead."
She was there when you were hungry
And when you had those dirty clothes -
She was there when you needed her
(How she knew? Only heaven knows.)
She was there at the beginning
And she'll be there your whole life through -
She'll be there in your mind and heart
Just like a mother is supposed to do.
