What's behind a fifth investigation into Pat Tillman's death? The Army, politics, the parents? Do the parents think that proving his death was criminal will bring him back? They are in grief and somehow, in my opinion, this really is anger. Anger at Pat, at the Army, at the circumstances that took his life.
In a sense, what difference does it make? In war, soldiers are killed by friendly fire all the time; it is the nature of war. Even in Vietnam, it was a wonder that more were not killed by friendly fire.
I think Pat's death was an accident. The soldiers who were with him wanted to cover it up thinking it was
better to be killed by the enemy than by your own people. These soldiers had good intentions, but were wrong; and, consequently, the Army gave Mary and Patrick Tillman, Pat's parents, the wrong information, and they started asking questions. The situation deteriorated.
The investigations started and determined soldiers told conflicting stories and Pat's death was caused by friendly fire. Somebody has to pay. The family has gotten political. Congressman are pandering to the parents. And, nobody is stepping up: this happens all the time.
Pat Tillman was a true American hero. He gave up a lucrative contract with the NFL to serve his country. His death was a terrible tragedy, but it was not intentional, it just happened.
When it is all said and done, grief is at the bottom of it-grief at losing a great American soldier, son, husband, brother, friend. Let's end the investigations; Let Pat rest in peace.

Saturday, March 4, the Army announced it was opening a criminal investigation into Pat Tillman's death. Pat Tillman, played football for the Arizona Cardinals but left the NFL and a 3.5 million dollar contract to join the Army Rangers with his brother after the September 11th attacks.
Cpl. Pat Tillman died on August 11, 2004 during a firefight near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The Army said the bullet that killed him came from enemy fire. Three to four weeks after his memorial service, the Army revealed that Pat was killed by friendly fire.
Before this soon-to-be criminal probe a report concluded that troops at the scene knew friendly fire killed Tillman and Officers destroyed evidence and kept the truth from his brother who was nearby at the time of Pat's death.
Hopefully after this investigation, Tillman's parents will get the answers they have been requesting. But will it ease the pain of losing their son? Probably not. God Bless Mary and Patrick Tillman and all parents and other family members who have lost a child or loved one in war.
