How Long Can The Iraq War Last?_____

The chairman of the Joint Chief's is about to retire or so I've read. He's going to miss all that TV time. Wonder what sort of defense contractor job he's lined up? Obviously, contractor jobs are automatic; the generals, like the present Chairman, will still be available to their old bosses; and, we all know they are hired by outfits like Haliburton for their good looks. But, that is another subject.
The remarks of the good general recently had to do with insurgencies: "Historically", he said, "they last for ten or twelve years." Well, thank you very much! Do any of us think that the American public will continue to support the war for ten or twelve more years? I don't think so! Already, what we are seeing is enormous erosion in public support despite the rosy predictions of the VP, "We have turned the corner in Iraq." What corner is he talking about? What concerns me bigtime is how our military has been eroded. As someone has said, "They are either on a tread mill or a conveyor belt." KT

NOBODY WANTS TO MAKE THE TRIP_____
Staff/Reuters

There seems to be almost universal agreement that nobody wants to make the trip. Seventy percent of various polls say parents will discourage their sons and daughters from joining. Big bonuses don't seem to be doing it. The National Guard , whose traditional mission is local and for state emergencies continues to be forty percent of the force and has fared badly in Iraq. Need I go on.
The military is already the smallest it has been since WWII. And, we continue to follow the dialogue of the Secretary of Defense, who, in another situation, would have been fired several times over. If he had been a baseball manager or any sport; he would have been "out of here" long ago. He says he has offered to resign twice; well, what this indicates is a stupidity all up and down the chain of command. We continue to do the same thing we've done in Iraq, throw good money after bad; in other words, try the same things with the same amount of success.

What is tremendously discouraging to us armchair quarterbacks is that no one seems to be listening. The good guys in Iraq are being killed with amazing regularity: the policemen, the security forces, to include our own soldiers! The terrorists move at will. Suggestion after suggestion has been made to fight them with special operations troops who are specially trained to deal with urban combat. NO RESPONSE!
The word is that we cannot leave as it would produce chaos. What do we think we have in Iraq now if it isn't chaos? It's time for some changes. Kt
