TUESDAY - LET ME SEE IF I UNDERSTAND:

campaign strategy drawing The NAACP is ticked at the president because he declined to be insulted; i.e,he declined an invitation to speack at their annual meeting. Regardless of popular blather, George W. is not a dummy. He might get elected President without being a Mensa member, but he could never be a pilot in the National Guard and be dumb.

campaign strategy drawing The NAACP president called Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, who just happens to be the first African Americans to ever hold such power in the government, dummies of the ventriloquist. And, to make matters even nastier, NAACP chairman Julian Bond said that Republicans' idea of diversity is to "join the American flag to the racist Confederate Flag." Now, them is "fighin" words. This goes beyond the pale: it is vile and uncalled for. And, the NAACP wonders why he won't speak to their convention. The only thing dumber would to call into Dr. Phil or Dr. Laura's talk show to be insulted. -A. Cooper

MON. HIGHLIGHT:WHY WOULD HE DO IT?

men fighting Lt. Brian Smith was killed when a sniper attacked his convoy west of Baghdad. Smith, 30, left his job as an Austin lawyer to pursue a lifelong interest in the military by enlisting in the Army. Like Pat Tillman, the NFL standout, who gave up millions to become an Army Ranger; and now, Lieutenant Smith does somewhat the same thing. WHY? How does old fashioned patriotism sound?

Black Hawk Down author says American troops returning from Iraq are surprised to find such a pessimistic view of the war in the media. They see they are doing good, fixing things, progress is being made. Where is the disconnect? What is the real truth? Interesting.---James Moore
