DVD REVIEW: THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA
three burials dvd cover
      THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA
THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA is a fascinating movie. Tommy Lee Jones, who will forever be "Call" in Lonesome Dove, acts in and directs this very poignant film.

A sadistic border patrol guy accidentally kills Jones' hired hand and good friend. The border patrol agent along with his fellow border patrol buddies buries Jones' friend quickly.

Ranch foreman, Pete Perkins, played by Jones, kidnaps the agent and forces him to disinter the body. Then Perkins seeks to fulfill a promise that he made to his friend that he would take him back to Mexico and bury him. Sound familiar?

If you saw Jones in the classic Lonesome Dove, this is a similar promise that he made to his sidekick in that movie, "taking him back to Texas and burying him in a stand of pecans where he once courted a girl."

THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA is a very character driven story in light of all the immigration stuff(Jones' dead friend is an illegal immigrant). It is also about relationships that are at the very basic levels of existence: folks who are on the edge and unsophisticated have the same emotions driving them that drive everyone else.

Watch this DVD one night with somebody who loves to see movies and talk about it afterwards. This movie is a classic one that can instruct and provide insight if you're looking for it.
