Movie Review: Prairie Home Companion By K. Thomas
movie poster Prairie home companion Prairie Home Companion Movie
Mick LaSalle, a movie critic for the San Francisco Chronicle(whom I read often), wrote a review on Prarie Home Companion entitled "Movie Kills the Radio Star." Maybe he had a bad hair day or did not get any the night before because he is about as dead off center as a critic could be. And I am being kind.

Prarie Home Companion is a take-off on Garrison Keillor's radio show on National Public Radio with singing and skits performed by Keillor and his guests. The movie is delightful and this is said by someone who rarely listens to the actual radio show and doesn't particularly like Keillor's whiny voice. However, Keillor gets an OK from me in this film.

The supporting cast is awesome. The movie should be seen for Meryl Streep if for no other reason; she is terrific. Streep along with Lily Tomlin play the singing Johnson Sisters. Lindsay Lohan plays Streep's daughter who writes about her obsession with suicide. Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly are OK as singing cowboys and add to the quirkiness of the movie and the characters.

But, there are a couple of priceless scenes in the movie. In one scene, a main character dies while getting ready to have sex with the sandwich lady who is incredibly unappealing sexually. Scenes like this make the movie all the more fun.

And, for exuding pure sexuality, Tomlin and Streep so outpace Lindsay Lohan(who is much younger) that it is simply heart throbbing to say the least.

4 parachutes
It is a movie which is downright fun and very, very clever.
See it now.
