| My Grandma Has a Blackberry Book Signing |
Lupe Jacobson will sign her newly minted book, My Grandma Has A Blackberry, on February 25 at the Analog book store in Berkeley. Analog is a small store located in the heart of Berkeley with a history of supporting great causes.
All the proceeds of the book will go to the U'ilani Fund for breast cancer. U'ilani is the Hawaiian name for Dr. Marina Lee U'ilani Bermudez. We knew her simply as Marina. She brought her love of life and of others into her family practice, where she worked at San Francisco State University. U'ilani is her Hawaiian name. She dearly loved Hawaii but spent most of her adult life in San Francisco and Santa Cruz.
We knew Marina as this loving, committed caring person who would spare no effort in "doing" for others. To know her was to love her. I remember Marina especially through the wedding of my daughter. She loved to cook and prepared this wonderful meal for the families on Meg's wedding day. An incredible act of giving. The sadness of her passing from this life into the next, to this day, causes me to reflect on her example and want to be a better person.
It seems only natural that the book, My Grandma Has A Blackberry, with its theme of girl empowerment supports our dear friend, Marina. All the proceeds go to the U'ilani Fund in Marina's name. It is quite remarkable to me that the cover of the book displays prominently the kerchief symbol for the Race For The Cure for breast cancer. All done way before the thought that the launch would involve our good friend Marina and her memory. JA
If you can't attend the book signing, call the phone number below for the Analog Bookstore and reserve a copy of My Grandma Has a Blackberry for a good cause or you can visit the U'ilani Fund website. A.Cooper
