| Memorial Day-2005 |

That poem about where “poppies blow”
And, “the crosses, row on row”
Still rings true, these ninety years
After written, still brings tears.
We still have Dead, “amid the guns”
And lose our young and our loved ones
Those who lived, “short days ago”
Who, “felt dawn, saw sunset glow”.
In Flanders Fields, “the poppy red”
Still grow near where the blood was bled
They, “Take up our quarrel with the foe”
And still die for Freedoms that we know.
They pass, “The torch” to, “hold it high”
And not, “break the faith with us who die”
For they, “shall not sleep, though poppies grow”
Beneath all those, “crosses, row on row”
In Flanders Fields.

 | Jack Bauer for President. 24 should be required watching for all Americans. If you haven't seen the show, it is hard hitting action about potential and real terrorism. There are some improbably possibilities to it but it is a show that is steeped in reality. And, it is the only show that I have seen on regular TV that does not seem to care about being PC (politically correct).
In last week's episode, Jack literally tortures a suspect who gives up info on terrorists who have stolen a nuclear bomb. The guy gives it up. OK, now think about it! Would you rather Jack torture a citizen and get information about a nuclear weapon that potentially will kill millions of Americans or would you rather that the individual's rights be protected? You make the call.
And, another thing that I like which is true and sad and irritating. During the show, the characters are all too real. Life is part of their existence. Here is CTU, (Counter Terrorism Unit) and in the midst of the country being blown up, the characters wrestle with interpersonal relations, bureaucratic hassles, and innocuous questions like who is going to get the credit if the operation is a success and who takes the "fall" if it is not.
I love this show and if you're not watching it, shame on you. Better still, go down and rent the first and second season or what you haven't watched. Your adrenaline will get to pumping I assure you. You'll never again feel that terrorism is another of those things that we've faced and now on to the "next case."

| VIETNAM STILL A MESS--Sorry, I MEANT TO SAY IRAQ
Morning headlines: 21 killed, scores hurt in attacks on Iraqis. Iraq continues to be a mess! Rice and Cheney are said to push Iraqi politicians on stalemate in forming a new government as though this were going to solve the problem. This is not about to end any time soon. Iraq, much like Palestine and Israel is a conflict that will last for decades.
Any old soldier realizes that his role is not political but how to fight as we use to say in the 82nd Airborne, "not harder but smarter." And, we don't appear to be anywhere close to the "smart" yet.
When you are in a guerilla war, the bad guys have all the advantages on their sides; we don't know who they are, we are easy targets: it's their country. They have unlimited weapons. And, most of their advantages have come about because we have mismanaged the war: didn't secure the country, close the borders, or choke off the weapon caches. Our only chance over the long haul is to take away their advantages. And, how we take away their advantages? We put more Special Operations soldiers in the fight and get the conventional troops out of harms way.
We are not being aggressive as it is with our soldiers and so why expose them continually. We have to get a strategy in place where we match the enemy's unconventional warfare with a force that meets them at their own place of work. And, the only possibility is with troops who are trained to fight in unconventional ways--Special Operations soldiers. I am by far not the first to suggest this but NOBODY IS LISTENING. BY KT

| Vietnam War Anniversary |
It’s been thirty years ago
Since the Fall of Saigon
But for so many who were there
That War still Rages on.
Some things have gotten better
And for some Time has Healed
But there are some Memories
That will Never be Revealed.
We turned our back to those
Who went off to Wage our Fight
And we blamed our Soldiers
When we decided, it not Right.
We must never let our Nation
Blame it on the Fighting Man
Who goes off to do the bidding
Of our Leader’s War Time Plan.
The Years may Ease the Pain
And blur Memories, but yet
That Shame of our Country
We must Not, Ever Forget.
More than fifty-eight thousand
Etched in that Mourning Wall
With more added all the time
Until the Last of those Souls Fall.
A Small Monument to Heroes
From that War of Yesterday
Where we Honor our Soldiers
In the True, American Way.
