PREZ GW BUSH SHOULD GET AN "A" FOR EFFORT
I saw news excerpts yesterday about the President's question and answer session (Central Carolina Piedmont College) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I had just read that the good old days of a "red" state jumping up and down when he visited was a thing of the past.
At the Charlotte community college, Bush touted his various efforts in the Global War on Terror and then opened the floor for questions. Now, keep in mind, this has not been his strong point and he has been criticized for only speaking to friendly audiences. I have been one of the harshest critics about his not going into the Lion's Den.
AP Photo/Chuck Burton | Anyway, a 61 year old man by the name of Harry Taylor stood and lambasted Bush about everything you can imagine from domestic spying to the war in Iraq and abortion.
At some point in Taylor's long diatribe, he said "You are --" The President interrupted saying "I'm not your favorite guy"-very funny. The crowd laughed. Taylor continued speaking.
The crowd then booed, but the President said, "No let him finish." Mr. Taylor continued and thanked the Prez for letting him finish. The President then began to answer Taylor's main criticism. The President didn't defend all the issues Taylor raised, but he did defend the decision on domestic spying and he did it with passion. I bought it.
I heard the exchange discussed on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer but no mention was made of the President's handling of the criticism, only that he was criticized. I don't think we can ever forget that all news is flavored toward the one doing the news, whether it is some of the sensationalists on Fox News or NPR.
For now, however, I give the Prez points. He should go down to
Duke and smack some of the Lacrosse team around. KT
