Rescue Me
Rescue Me is one of those character driven series that simply grabs and holds you. It is a TV series that can be seen on the FX cable channel(Tuesday, 10 p.m.). It reminds me in a way of Third Watch (which I hated to see go off the air), but is a little harder along the edges.

Denis Leary plays Tommy Gavin, a New York firefighter. Leary's character exudes leadership and courage, while at the same time is all too human. His marriage is in shambles. He talks to dead friends and is in one trauma after another. This DVD can be watched on many levels. All women who are looking for a man ought to see it. If they honestly want to know how men see women, real or imagined, this is the television program.

In a way, there's a real irony in this type of show. First of all, what sort of person does it take to rush into a burning building? Well, like soldiers in combat, it takes someone who is not sitting around trying to figure out what is politically correct or what people think. It is a man or women; who, simply in a moment of crisis, can forget their own safety as they did on 9-11 and rush into a burning inferno with no thoughts or interest in what happens to oneself- a just do it and die attitude. And, so for that, the firemen in this show get "lots of slack" for their shortcomings which are dramatically depicted in the series.

This show also does "not tie each episode up into a neat bow." Often we shake our heads and say, Wow...

Two parachutes, Best watched when rented a season at a time. After a season, I needed a break, but will go back. Good show.
