On The Wikileaks Documents
What Do These Documents Tell Us?

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!! You have a PFC(Private first class) hanging out with a bunch of classified documents and think "God is in his heaven and all is right with the world? Please!!!!!! I am not all that shook up about this incident and really feel badly for the young enlisted troop who got himself into this mess for whatever reason.

There's really not much that some documents can tell us about the frustrations of Afghanistan and what any discerning person would believe about Pakistan that we don't already know. Pakistan feigns a big crisis; We throw taxpayer dollars at whatever group is in power. The Pakistani government gets excited and we think they are chasing after the Taliban but don't really know. We think this because the Taliban keeps hanging out on the borders and killing American soldiers. Doesn't make sense to me.

So, what will these leaked documents tell us? Will they tell us about corruption, Afghans lack of faith in central government, religious zealots who are still stoning suspected violators of the faith, drug profits lining pockets of war lords and connected relatives, hatred of Americans? Unless we are on Mars, we already know this and will be reading about it for days, mainly "how" the documents were leaked, not "what" is in them. But what difference will it make? NONE!

What continues to amaze me is that nothing seems to shake the overall public that we are fighting a war without end and young Americans are dying. Historian David M. Kennedy of Stanford has it about right, "The Army is at war but the country is not. We have managed to create and field an armed force that can engage in very, very lethal warfare without the society in whose name it fights breaking a sweat."
