The Shirley Sherrod Saga
The Media is the Problem

The media is always interested in a story rather than the truth. For the life of me, I don't see why we can't get it. Maybe it's because most who watch TV or even read print media don't take the time to be discerning with questions like, "Is this really the truth?"

The latest bruhaha is about Shirley Sherrod and accusations of racism. Ms. Sherrod, a Department of Agriculture employee, was fired because a video was published on right-wing Breitbart's website (biggovernment.com) that indicated she was a racist.

But it is now clear that Breitbart's video was edited for effect. The entire video, recorded in March at the NAACP meeting,is clearly about racial reconciliation, not racism as Ms. Sherrod explained on media outlets.

This really infuriates me that some conservative bozo would do this to make his point that the NAACP is racist. A woman was fired who didn't deserve it because the Department of Agriculture and The White House "jumped the gun" by watching Breitbart's edited version of what really happened. See what happens when the media will do or say anything to get a story?

The unedited version of this video, thankfully, is now online and the Department of Agriculture is reconsidering Sherrod's dismissal. I don't blame her if she doesn't take her job back, if offered. If I were her, I might take a big settlement and give them the "kiss off."

People like Breitbart give conservatism a bad name. He should be ashamed. I am almost ashamed that I am giving him free publicity by mentioning his name and website in this article.

(Late Wednesday Afternoon, Tom Vilsack head of the Agriculture Department apologized to Shirley Sherrod and offered her a new job. She is considering it.)
