Making Old Men Noises
The Kagan Confirmation Hearings

I briefly watched some of the Kagan confirmation hearings. Talk about a bunch of old men who act like old men. Damn. I’m an old guy, but if I ever sound like these bozos, I want somebody to kick my arsh or worse.

Kagan doesn’t deserve the rant that Senator Sessions gave arguing that she barred military recruiters from the Harvard Law School.

What happened to chivalry, politeness, civility, respect of females? Politeness is the southern way!!! My Mom would have been “boxing” his jaws. If Kagan did bar military recruiters from the Harvard law school campus, I think it was a good move. The last thing the military needed was a bunch of hot shot Harvard lawyers.

To me, the greater concern, if it is one, is the make up of the Court. The Supreme Court has mostly “yankees” from Harvard, Catholics, and three women. Does it make a difference? I don’t know overall. I don’t think so, but I do wonder. Each year the Court considers so many issues and all are complicated. Does the fact that there’s no Protestant on the Supreme Court make any difference? Probably not. I think we overate religious influences anyway.

What does make a difference is common sense, however. Let’s look at guns. I have a weapon or two. But, who needs an automatic weapon like an AK 47-no American on my radar screen, maybe some nutso militia type whose paranoia has him defending hearth and home. We want Supreme Court Justices who, while interpreting the constitution, have a common sense approach.

Confirmation hearings are about the epitome of stupid. They have nothing to do with truth but rather with a bunch of old men loving to hear themselves talk. It is merely about a nominee saying the right words to get confirmed. Let’s quit truly fooling ourselves.

Wouldn’t you love to see and hear someone like Kagan say, “Senator that is one stupid statement or you are f…ing out to lunch.” Screen fades to black!!!!
