Let The General Keep His Stars

Of course McChrystal should keep his stars. What the hell is the problem? With all the taxpayer bucks we are throwing away in Afghanistan, spending time debating whether we should demote McChrystal from a four to a three star general is stupid.
Thankfully, the Prez is smart and doesn't hold grudges. He is bending the rules so McChrystal can keep his stars(Technically a four star general must serve three years in the rank before they can keep it in retirement. McChrystal got his fourth star last year.)
Watching some of the Petraeus confirmation hearings I thought: haven’t we been here before.
As much as I personally like Petraeus, he’s no magician, i. e., Afghanistan will still be Afghanistan.(tribes, warlords, sects fighting us and fighting each other)
Even though I like General Petraeus, I am skeptical when anyone, politically connected as Petraeus appears to be, is so universally accepted or liked by politicians. Petraeus was unanimously confirmed. Come on! And, what is wrong with McCain. Has he “gone round the bend. ” I respect him for all those years as a POW but now it seems his theme song is no deadlines in Afghanistan.
One last thing to bitch about: What is it with all these generals and medals? Damn, wouldn’t you hate to be the general's aide de camp and have to string all those medals together. It looks like ten rows of medals on Petraeus.
Let’s face it, the military does love badges and medals, but watching these generals is a bit much. A guy like Petraeus by regulation can actually choose what to wear, i. e., prescribe his own uniform. I’ve known generals who would just wear jump wings, but the TV lights weren’t blaring I guess.
