Sad state of affairs is all I can say. As a guy who is not so high on generals to start with, I guess I surely seem a big defender of McChrystal.
As I’ve said before, “to think that a big player in the war arena would be fired because of a magazine article is “beyond the pale” to me.” This BS about civilian vs military control is a smoke screen.
Think about it-some BS reporter, embedded with the General and his aides, heard a conversation and then printed it. The President fired his main man in Afghanistan. Damn insane at worst and weird at best.
The President dropped down a couple of notches in my mind. He wanted to assert his power for the war effort. Great! Give me a break!
McChrystal is retiring. Sad, but I think "Mac" can go out knowing that his ideas continue. Next case!
I wish "Mac" well. He can write a book, come back as a talking head, etc. Hard to say what he will do. I think he is a different duck.
McChrystal's move to retire is good. On the way out, if i were him, I would give the "one finger salute". The f…ing “draft dodgers”(my term for talking heads, the shouting prognosticaters who know nothing, and all the opinion types who have no skin in the game)deserve "the finger".
Since this incident has been compared to MacArthur's firing( which is not related in my view) let’s use his appropriate words for McChrystal, “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.”
