Movie Review: Georgia Rule

Georgia Rule
is the story of a grandmother, Georgia, (Jane Fonda, one of Vietvets favorite people), her daughter, Lilly(Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives) and Lilly's daughter, Rachel (Lindsay Lohan) who is recalcitrant to the max.
The movie is set in this little town in Idaho. The local veterinarian, Simon(Dermot Mulroney) often masquerades as a doctor in an emergency (Dermont Mulroney is always his very cool self. Ever since I saw him in the Wedding Date , he has been my constant "cool" example.)
My favorite character is Harlan(Garrett Hedlund, Troy) who gets involved with Rachel.
A few interesting scenes revolve around Rachel and Harlan...
The Mormons are everywhere, in a friendly close-knit small town. Into this homogenous environment comes Rachel (Lindsay Lohan) an outspoken, free-spirited, trouble-maker with skirts up about her navel.
Rachel puts the move on Harlan who is going on a two year Mormon mission and has a girlfriend. Harlan is lamenting the fact that he has to cut his hair because it can't be below his ears. Rachel gives a hesitant, at first, but willing Harlan oral sex. (we don't see this, they just talk about it). Harlan feels guilty and decides he must marry Rachel and confess to his girlfriend, so he takes Rachel with him to find his girlfriend at college. Rachel does not want to marry Harlan and wants to lie for him. Harlan decides he can't lie and confesses to the girlfriend. The girlfriend has all the Mormons, especially the young people in town, watch and spy on Harlan. It is so funny.
The movie isn't a comedy, however. Georgia rule is an interesting movie that has to do with sexual abuse, alcoholism, relationships, etc.
Two parachutes.

After reading several reviews, I think that most movie critics did not even see Venus . One movie critic called Maurice played by Peter O' Toole lecherous. What? Can't imagine anyone seeing Maurice(O'Toole) as lecherous- he appreciates women, loves women, respects them, loves them, but a leach? No way.
I had heard about the movie and rented it from Netflix. Every Netflix movie always comes with a short review of what it's about. In this case, after seeing the movie, I thought, "What were these people at netflix smoking?" The review was not at all what I expected.
Venus was mostly about aging Maurice, a somewhat famous actor, and his two buds slipping into the twilight. He meets one buddy's grandniece. She is unsophisticated and without experience. The movie is almost more about her transformation than anything. A sweet movie, in a sense, but very poignant. See it. 3 parachutes.
Three parachutes.
